After receiving negative feedback about an online advertisement with a Black child in a hoodie with the wording, “coolest monkey in the jungle,” written across the chest.  H&M issued an apology to many outlets such as the Washington Post stating their deepest regret and that they meant no harm:

“We understand that many people are upset about the image. We, who work at H&M, can only agree,” H&M said Monday in a statement to The Washington Post. “We are deeply sorry that the picture was taken, and we also regret the actual print. Therefore, we have not only removed the image from our channels, but also the garment from our product offering globally.”

“It is obvious that our routines have not been followed properly. This is without any doubt. We will thoroughly investigate why this happened to prevent this type of mistake from happening again.”

Twitter users expressed their anger with H&M and using such an ad.

R&B singer, The Weekend, made the announcement on Monday that he would end his relationship with the Sweedish retailer. The Weekend has a clothing carried exclusively by H&M, and said he was, embarrassed and shocked.”
