Saturday Dove soap released a social media ad that displayed what the product does for women.
In the ad it showed a Black woman wearing a brown shirt, and turning White as she takes it off. The ad angered many people who believed Dove was trying to relay that their soap help cleans dirty skin.
After much criticism, Dove released the following statement.
An image we recently posted on Facebook missed the mark in representing women of color thoughtfully. We deeply regret the offense it caused.

Dove has been accused of releasing other racist advertising in the past.
Recently, Shonda Rhimes, an African-American celebrity, and creator of the hit ABC series, Grey’s Anatomy, has been a public face with Dove’s marketing campaign. We have reached out to Ms. Rhimes to find out her thoughts on the images Dove released, and no word back as of yet.
