Since the “Blurred Lines” verdict of Marvin Gaye’s family suing Pharrell Williams and Robin Thicke for copyright infringement of “Got To Give It Up.” There has been much talk about one of the industry’s biggest copyright cases where the family of Marvin Gaye has won almost $7.4 million. It has led many to believe that the decision will cause many similar cases to appear.
Local super producer, Jermaine Dupri has come about accusing local R&B superstar, Ciara, of ripping of Usher’s “U Got It Bad” with her recent hit, “I Bet.” Dupri was the executive producer of Usher’s “8701” album that was released in 2001, and helped write and produce “You Got It Bad” along with
Bryan-Michael Cox and Usher.
“Ciara’s new single is a complete rip-off of Usher’s ‘U Got It Bad,’” he said. “I’m clear on what I made and I’m clear on how music influences people and I’m clear on chord changes and how people move things. … It might not be as evident as the ‘Blurred Lines’ situation, but I believe the same thing happened to me.”
